The Effects of Ginger Extract on Lipid Profiles and Blood Glucose Levels in Diabetic Rats

บทคัดย่อ (Abstract)
เบาหวานเป็นปัญหาสำคัญที่ทำให้เกิดโรคเรื้อรังที่มีผลต่อสุภาพ และทำให้ผู้ป่วยเสียค่าใช้จ่ายในการรักษาสูง จึงเหมาะที่จะใช้สมุนไพรเป็นทางเลือกหนึ่งในการบำบัด ขิงนับเป็นสมุนไพรอีกชนิดหนึ่งที่ใช้ในการบรรเทาอาการเบาหวาน วัตถุประสงค์ของการศึกษาในครั้งนี้จึงได้ทำการศึกษาผลของสารสกัดขิงต่อระดับไขมันในเลือด น้ำตาลกลูโคสในเลือด และปริมาณเซรัมอินซูลินในเลือดของหนูเบาหวาน
ทำการทดลองโดยการป้อนสารสกัดขิง ขนาด 250 มิลลิกรัม/กิโลกรัม แก่หนูที่ถูกเหนี่ยวนำให้เป็นเบาหวานด้วย Streptozotocin (STZ) เป็นระยะเวลา 5 สัปดาห์ ผลการทดลองพบว่า สารสกัดขิงสามารถลดระดับน้ำตาลกลูโคสในเลือดหนูเบาหวานและลดระดับคอเลสเตอรอลในเลือดใกล้เคียงกับหนูปกติและหนูเบาหวานที่ได้รับยาไกลเบนคลาไมด์ นอกจากนี้สารสกัดขิงยังช่วยลดระดับไขมันชนิดร้าย (LDL) แต่กลับเพิ่มไขมันชนิดดี (HDL) และยังเพิ่มปริมาณเซรัมอินซูลินในเลือดหนูเบาหวาน และหนูเบาหวานที่ได้รับเนยใกล้เคียงกับหนูเบาหวานที่ได้รับยาไกลเบนคลาไมด์
จากการศึกษาในครั้งนี้ทำให้คาดว่าสามารถจะนำขิงมารับประทานเพื่อบำรุงร่างกายและรักษาโรคเบาหวานได้อีกทางหนึ่ง
Diabetes mellitus is an important problem as a chronic disease of health causing the patients to spent more money on treatment. Medicinal plants are alternative for treatment of the diabetes such as ginger rhizome. The aims of this study were investigated the effects of ginger extract on lipid profiles, blood glucose levels and blood serum insulin levels in diabetic rats.
The experiments were designed to feed orally of ginger extract at a dose 250 mg/kg and used streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats for five weeks. The results revealed that the ginger extract at a dose of 250 mg/kg which reduced blood glucose level and signiticantly lowered serum total cholesterol, LDL and raised HDL, triglycerides and blood serum insulin in diabetic rats or diabetic rat with cheese closed to the normal controls and glibenclamide treated rats.
These finding indicated that the ginger extract could be remedy as anti-diabetic agent and ginger health care.
