บทคัดย่อ

ปราสาทนครวัด สร้างขึ้นเพื่ออุทิศถวายแด่พระวิษณุในศาสนาฮินดูหรือศาสนาพราหมณ์ และยังใช้เก็บพระศพของพระเจ้าสุริยวรมันที่ 2 ด้วย รูปแบบผังโดยรวมของศาสนสถานแห่งนี้เปรียบเสมือนเมืองที่มีขนาดใหญ่ ประกอบด้วยตัวปราสาทที่มีโครงสร้าง 2 ส่วน คือ ส่วนปิรามิดปราสาท และส่วนที่เป็นระเบียงคต ภายในปราสาทนครวัดมีสิ่งที่น่าสนใจ คือภาพสลักบนผนังด้านในของระเบียงคตชั้นล่าง ได้แก่ ภาพสลักกองทัพชาวสยาม ขบวนทัพของพระเจ้าชัยวรมันที่ 2 การพิพากษาของพญายม กวนเกษียรสมุทรและภาพสลักนางอัปสราซึ่งได้จำหลักไว้รอบปราสาทนครวัด โดยพบในรูปแบบที่เป็นนางอัปสราสวมใส่เครื่องประดับตกแต่งตามร่างกายเพื่อความสวยงามและร่ายรำในท่าทางที่แตกต่างกัน และต่อมาท่าทางเหล่านั้นจึงได้กลายเป็นที่มาของระบำอัปสร
