Abstract

The film and television media industry in China has been experiencing rapid growth, yet employee satisfaction in this sector remains only partially studied. This research aimed to investigate the impact of demographic and employer factors on employee satisfaction in the film and television media industry in Nanchang, China.

A quantitative approach was employed for this study. A questionnaire was distributed to 400 employees in the film and television media industry in Nanchang. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to explore the impact of demographic and corporate factors on employee satisfaction.

The results indicated that overall employee satisfaction was “average”. Demographic and employer factors significantly affected employee working hours and satisfaction. Gender had a significant impact, with male respondents reporting higher levels of satisfaction. While the industry predominantly employs younger workers, older and more experienced employees were more satisfied. Job roles significantly influenced satisfaction, varying greatly depending on their responsibilities. Education level did not significantly impact satisfaction. More than half of the respondents reported unpredictable working hours, with longer hours positively correlating with satisfaction. The nature of the company and performance evaluation systems significantly affected working hours and satisfaction, with most employees dissatisfied with performance evaluation practices. Signing a permanent contract negatively correlated with employee satisfaction. These findings provide valuable insights for human resource management in the Chinese film and television media industry.
