ABSTRACT

This research aimed to: 1) investigate undergraduate students’ decision-making in enrolling in the Faculty of Industrial Education at Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi; 2) compare decision-making levels based on gender and academic programs; and 3) examine guidelines for utilizing the findings to enhance undergraduate enrollment in the Faculty.
The sample consisted of 226 first-year students in the academic year 2021, selected through stratified random sampling. The research instruments included a five-point Likert scale questionnaire, which was validated for content validity (IOC = 0.67–1.00) and demonstrated a high level of reliability (Cronbach’s alpha coefficient = .96), as well as a semi-structured interview. The statistical techniques employed were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent samples t-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).
The findings revealed that: 1) The overall level of decision-making was at the highest level. Among the influencing factors, the university’s image had the greatest impact, followed by location, public relations, and instructional management. Students expressed confidence in the institution’s quality, credibility, and facilities. Additionally, information obtained from peers, senior students, and guidance activities significantly supported their decision-making; 2) The comparative analysis indicated that differences in gender and academic programs did not result in statistically significant differences in decision-making at the .05 level, suggesting consistent perceptions of the Faculty’s value across student groups; and 3) Five key practical guidelines were proposed for development: (1) building recognition and trust, (2) ensuring student welfare and safety, (3) engaging guidance counselors and utilizing diverse media channels, (4) investing in modern instructional media and equipment, and (5) utilizing research findings to drive institutional policy.
The findings of this research can serve as policy guidelines for the Faculty of Technical Education, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, to enhance proactive public relations, foster community engagement, and modernize instructional management to meet learners’ needs, ultimately supporting effective student recruitment planning.
